Does God Care What I Wear?

Introduction to Modern Modesty

The short answer is yes definitely. But in what way? Or why? In order, to explain that we much go back.

Far back in time when the first clothing options came about. Back to the first runway show. The first ever debut of an apparel line

This was before Chris Cross had us wearing our jumpers (overalls) backwards. Before the eighties had us doubling up on shoulder pads.   Even before the Glamorous 1940's, the Flapper 1920's and the first big booty fixation the bustle from the 1870's.

Before all of that there was this man and woman named Adam and Eve. They were the first as well as the only man and woman. They were chilling in Eden having a great time and then the serpent came. Eve was deceived and then they both sinned and their eyes were opened in a way that they hadn’t expected.

Suddenly they look down and realized that they were naked. Up until this point they had no shame in the nakedness no reason to even be concerned about it.

Upon this new revelation the first ever apparel line debuts. It is a line of loincloths made from fig leaves which inadequately covers them. Thinking of the guilt and shame that they must have left I’m sure that they wanted to cover their whole bodies to hide from the repercussions of their actions.  Fortunately, for us this line was very short lived.

So, does God care what I,  Jodi-Gaye, (insert your name here) wear? Yes, again and here’s why… After Adam and Eve made their loincloths of figs and hid from God, they found out the true significance of their actions. They had to leave the paradise they called home and other consequences.

Then, in this time of sadness one of God’s first act towards them was he made them new garments to adequately clothe them to face this new world affected by sin.

These new garments were made from animal skins which would serve them better in the world that they would face. This Fashion line’s debut was an act of mercy and grace. It showed that though they sinned God was still merciful and would love them still. He would continue to care for the people he created in his image and provide for their needs.

If my great God would clothe Adam and Eve after their fall, of course he would care what I wear.  The Bible says that the hairs on my head are numbered by God.  When I brush my hair, the Lord knows how many hairs I brushed out and tossed in the trash.

If he is that detailed with my hair, then of course he cares how I cover the bodily temple that he made in his image.  The realization that God does care what I wear is the beginning of Modern Modesty.

Now I know for some of you this is not what you were expecting. You want the details. What about leggings, short skirts, or even tight pants? I have no problem talking about the details. I’ll get real specific real soon, but it is important to start here at the beginning with the graceful love of God first.

There’s simply no point to even talking about modesty if you don’t believe that God cares what you wear. Besides if I have all the modern modesty tips and guidelines but have not love, I am a noisy gong or clanging cymbal.”  The world already has plenty of those but not enough still sweet whispers pointing us back to the God who created us.

What do you think? Does God care what you wear? Have you ever considered that God cared about what you wear? Let me know in the comments!
